919th Engineers 2019 Reunion
Tuesday-Friday, October 22-25
West Point, New York
Dear Fellow Members of the 919th Engineers:
The 2019 Reunion at West Point, New York is fast approaching! A Save the Date email was sent out by Jim Fox on March 11 with general information. We are in the final stages of planning and have the following additional details for you.
West Point
All the planned events center around West Point Military Academy and the historic events that occurred in this area of New York—from Washington’s Headquarters, the nation’s first publicly owned historic site and the site where the Badge of Military Merit (forerunner to the Purple Heart) was created, to New Windsor Cantonment, where Washington spent the last winter of the American Revolution. We will have the opportunity to visit these sites and continue our living history tour.
A highlight of our reunion involves a visit to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. This will be especially interesting to our members who have received the Purple Heart, and they are requested to visit the website at
www.thepurpleheart.com, scroll down to enrollment and click, and under enrollment documentation click on Enrollment Form and complete the form. Please complete this as soon as you are able, since it takes approximately one month to get your information uploaded to the exhibit. When we visit it will be awesome to be able to view your Purple Heart! We will be spending an entire day at West Point on Thursday, but are leaving additional time to visit the Museum since it is comprised of three floors of military exhibits of guns and weapons all the way back to the days of Rome. We think many members will want to spend extra time there.
Hotel
We will be staying at the Homewood Suites by Hilton, Newburgh-Stewart Airport location. The King Suites and King Studio Suites all offer a sitting area and full kitchen at a rate of $110.00 for 2 adults, with a fee of $10 for each additional adult in the room. This rate extends to Monday October 21 for early arrivals; be advised there is an Army home football game on Saturday so we could not negotiate any Friday room rate. Please book your room ASAP since we only have a block of 30 rooms reserved. The hotel offers a shuttle service to and from the airport. The only available meeting space at this time is small, however is adjacent to a large sitting area. The hotel offers a full hot breakfast and a "lite fare" every evening, described to us as sliders, soup and salad, etc. and wine and beer.
Tailgate Party
Our traditional T-bone barbeque will be held at Bill Moore’s firehouse in Campbell Hall NY, approximately 10 miles from the hotel. We will continue to enjoy our traditional meal of steak, baked potato, salad and customized cake.
Our tentative agenda is as follows
Tuesday October 22, 2019
Wednesday October 23, 2019
Thursday October 24, 2019
Friday October 25. 2019
