Fellow Blackhorse troopers,
It is with great sadness that I make this announcement.
Our dear friend Chuck Schmidt passed away on November 11, 2007, at approximately 11:11pm. How fitting that a great soldier, leader and president of the 11th ACVVC would pass
away on Veterans Day. His wife Bonnie, son Garrett and daughter Jill were with him.
Chuck was diagnosed with cancer in mid June. Surgery was not possible. The prognosis was that it was not curable but it was treatable. Chuck had one chemo treatment just
two weeks prior to the 11th ACVVC reunion in Louisville in September. Two weeks after the reunion Chuck developed an infection that spread throughout his body. He was being
treated for the infection and was recovering but unfortunately had a setback a week ago.
I last spoke with Chuck on Friday, Nov 9. Several have talked with him recently. Despite Chucks condition he still wanted to remain very much involved with this
organization. This was his life blood and his passion. We tried to keep him up-to-date as often as possible. He was always pleased to hear that everything was moving along
smoothly.
A vigil and funeral service will be held in Colorado Springs with interment in his home town in North Dakota. Please see the details below.
Chuck was a great leader, not only during his military career, but as the president of this organization. He was also a friend to many. We will miss him.
'Till we meet again in Fiddlers Green......
ALLONS!
Allen Hathaway
