M-113 ARMORED
CAVALRY ASSAULT VEHICLE (ACAV)in Vietnam. Precision-engineered,
exceptionally well detailed die-cast metal scale 1:43 model ACAV for the
adult collector. The ACAV was the M-113 Personnel Carrier modified as a
fighting platform for armored cavalry. Armed with a .50-caliber heavy
machinegun and two mounted M-60 7.62mm machineguns with gunshields,
M-16s and M-79 40mm grenade launcher individual weapons, cases of
handgrenades, and carrying in excess of 12,000 rounds of ammo, a platoon
of ACAVs had the firepower of an infantry company and was considered as
the deadliest unit of its size in the Vietnam War. These are
precision-engineered, highly detailed die-cast metal scale model for the
adult collector.
Only 10,700 ACAV models were approved to cast. Each piece contains a numbered, limited edition certificate, and a booklet with the specifications of the vehicle and a true story relating to the actual vehicle from which the model was designed. Based on actual photographs and personal accounts, CORGI has endeavored to reproduce the exact ACAV used by an armored recon Platoon Leader with the famed 11th Armored Cavalry "Blackhorse" Regiment / 11th Cav in Vietnam and Cambodia. This particular ACAV endured six crew casualties (KIA & WIA) in seven days from April 25-May 1, 1970, plus many other crew casualties previously.
