Katherine Kelsch

I am honoured to receive the 11th Armoured Cavalry Scholarship. The connections that we make with people shape our future, because they tie us to the past. It doesn’t just matter if you went to college, it matters how and why you went. I grew up with my grandfather living near me for most of my childhood. I never knew much of the service he did, I only knew how much he loved me. As I've gotten older, I've come to see what he gave. He did what he thought was right to protect those he cared about. Receiving this scholarship from his unit, from the people who made the same choice, will always remind me of my responsibility to do the same. This scholarship connects the past to my future, and to the future that I give. I cannot thank the 11th Cavalry enough for all they did, and all they continue to do.

Katherine Kelsch, granddaughter of Elmer Robertson Jr, HHT 1/11, 1969-1970

Bailyn Kinney

My parents want my brothers and I to learn to be good stewards of our money, understand the value of a dollar, and use it well. They want us to appreciate our education; thus, I will be financially responsible for my college tuition. Therefore, the ACVVC Scholarship enables me to be less financially dependent on student loans. By decreasing my financial stress, I will be able to focus more on learning, enjoying my time in college, and preparing for my future. After college, it will allow me to be debt free sooner so I can give more freely to organizations that help others.

Syrah Martinelli

Thank you for awarding me the scholarship. I am very honored to have received it on July 4th. I know that I am very fortunate to have my grandfather return from his service in Vietnam, as many families were not as blessed.

My Grandfather, Eugene Martinelli, was a medic during the war. While my grandfather has spared me from some of the more difficult aspects of the war, he often talks about the people he served with while in Vietnam. They are his best friends, and his time of service for our country was very influential in how he lives his life now. He has taught me to live life to the fullest and appreciate every day that we are given. I plan to utilize this scholarship to continue my education in Aerospace Engineering, while I also pursue my pilot's license.

This scholarship means so much more than I can say to me. My grandfather (Fred Pimental/Vovo) was drafted into the Vietnam War at the young age of 18, which I am right now. While in Vietnam, my grandfather sacrificed so much of livelihood and persevered through the toughest of times. So, it's an honor that his hard work and toughness at my age many years ago is going to help me go to college now. I can't thank Vovo enough for all that he has done for me and my family.

Breona Pizzuta

From a young age, my family instilled in me the values of integrity, determination and compassion and my grandpa, who is a Vietnam Veteran, has taught me to be humble and kind to others. Through high school I have worked hard, dedicating myself to learning, and focusing on what I can do to make a difference and give back to my community in meaningful ways. It is an extreme honor to be selected as an 11th Armored Cavalry Veterans of Vietnam & Cambodia scholarship winner. This means so much that I have been recognized for all of my diligence and commitment to my schoolwork and extracurricular activities. My many leadership roles have made me the person I am today–inspired and motivated to work hard as well as to improve the lives of other people and the community around me. I will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology in the fall to pursue a career as a computer programmer or web developer and this scholarship will help my family offset tuition costs for the upcoming school year. Donald Tinsley

Having this scholarship means that I can know for sure that I won't have to back out of school due to financial hardship this semester. Not only is my education secure, but I also have hours upon hours freed up for studying (even more!), working, and spending time with my girlfriend without stressing over the cost of my classes.

I am proud to be the grandson of Ronnie Walker, who served our country during the first Tet offensive. I grew up looking up to my grandfather and this only makes me admire him even more. I am also appreciative to be able to receive this scholarship because of his service. I am grateful for this scholarship allowing me to attend Texas Tech University and continue my education.

I would like to thank the 11th ACVVC Board of Directors for selecting me as one of their scholarship recipients. This goes without saying but thank you to all the Troopers and their loving families who have supported this program over the years. I am humbled and beyond excited for the opportunity to honor these great service men. I will show much of the same dedication and hard work while I attend the University of Kansas. The award will greatly reduce some financial burden my freshman year. Thank you again to the 11th ACVVC!
